HEALING AND MOTION Summer Series 2010:
TUI NA MASSAGE (literally translating as "Push Pull" or "Push Grasp" massage) complements TAI CHI CHUAN and QIGONG for extending their healing and health enhancing benefits to others. Like Tai Chi, it uses low impact, slow motion movements, coordinated with smooth patterns of breathing, to gently massage the joints, organs, tissues and meridian energy points, relieving pain and stress and correcting many misalignments and imbalances and facilitating healing of a variety of maladies.
INTRODUCTION to TUI NA a Tutorial in Chinese Massage with DR. PETER CHAN, OMD, LAc IN THIS HANDS-ON INTRODUCTORY TUTORIAL Dr. Chan will teach participants the basic techniques used in this time honored approach to massage therapy. Through lecture, demonstratiion and hands-on guidance, he will show and explain how to use these techniques -- sometimes in conjunction with herbs and other modalities -- to facilitate the healing of 20 different maladies, ranging from sinus headaches to pulled muscles. DR. PETER CHAN, OMD, LAc has been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine professionally for over 35 years following 10 years of academic and clinical training and experience in Canton and Hong Kong. After emigrating to the United States, he was licensed to practice Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine by the State of California in 1981. Following additional education at the San Francisco College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and several years working through other Chinese healing centers in San Francisco's Chinatown, Dr. Chan opened his own clinic and supply shop: Meng Tak Herbs and Ginseng Shop on Geary Street (off Leavenworth) where he continues to practice Acupuncture, Oriental Massage (including Tui Na) and Chinese Herbal Medicine. Dr. Chan has sat on the Board of the California Certified Acupuncturists Association (CCAA) since 1998. He served two terms as its Vice President for Education (2005 & 06). He was Class Chairman of the American Doctors of Oriental Medicine Association in 2006 & 07. "I was in great pain from a pulled muscle in my leg and I could barely get around. Nothing seemed to work. Then my son suggested I try Dr. Peter Chan and I reluctantly went with him to his clinic. After one treatment, the pain went away and in a few days I was able to get around as good as usual."
